Project Overview
Digital adoption strategy underpinned this NSPCC project, where the charity sought specialist support to better leverage Microsoft technology and embed everyday use across teams. Transparity, drawing on its Modern Workplace expertise, embedded an interim Adoption & Change Manager and established a Technology Adoption function.
The work included a reinvigorated ‘Tech Trailblazers’ network, a comprehensive Technology Adoption Capability, and ongoing guidance and comms – reflecting our Adoption and Change Management approach. Early outcomes show high engagement and a steadily improving Microsoft 365 Adoption Score, supporting NSPCC’s wider mission.
The Challenge
As part of its mission, the NSPCC wanted to find better ways to use technology to support the work it does for children, but recognised the need for specialist support to make that happen – specifically, additional dedicated resource within its Business Technology team.
By identifying and acting on opportunities to deploy technology within live projects, NSPCC could see the potential to upskill its workforce and improve performance through greater adoption of the Microsoft applications it already had, in everyday processes and tasks. NSPCC approached Transparity for specialist support to create this Technology Adoption Capability and bring bring the idea to life.
The Solution
To address the immediate need for dedicated resource, Transparity proposed that all activity should be led by an experienced Adoption and Change Manager, working part-time within NSPCC’s Business Technology team and laying the foundations for a permanent resource to manage and operate the function going forward.
The team began by identifying the key pain points in the existing system, to understand where best to focus effort and which issues needed addressing as a priority. Based on these findings, Transparity consulted with NSPCC’s management team and proposed a range of high-profile initiatives to give technology a more active role in everyday operations across the organisation. These included:
- A reinvigorated Tech Trailblazers network, with clear, defined leadership and strategy
- A scope of work and skills required for the full-time resource going forward
- A comprehensive Technology Adoption Capability document, covering processes, cultural practices, terms of reference, an operational framework, roles, responsibilities and governance, supporting collateral and templates, and reporting metrics to measure benefits
- An informative monthly blog featuring tech updates, resources and changes, a roadmap of what’s coming, and a two-way channel for feedback and comments
These initiatives were built around a core principle of participation: encouraging people to enjoy educating themselves, to learn together by trying technology, and to share their experiences.
The Outcome
Engagement built into the culture
The Tech Trailblazers network is seeing consistently high engagement rates of 95% and above, with users from across the organisation interacting with, and getting support from, their Trailblazer colleagues.
Microsoft 365 adoption climbing steadily
Thanks to Transparity’s Microsoft 365 consulting support, NSPCC’s Adoption Score continues to rise at a steady pace, showing the initiatives are succeeding in encouraging greater day-to-day use of the toolset.
A foundation for ongoing change
The Technology Adoption Capability document gives NSPCC a lasting strategic foundation – covering governance, roles and reporting metrics – so the function can continue to operate and prove its value well beyond the initial project.
A culture of curiosity and self-learning
Ongoing guidance, advice and a monthly blog keep the emphasis on practical, hands-on learning, helping staff become more confident and ‘tech savvy’ – ultimately supporting NSPCC’s wider mission to help children and young people when it matters most.
