Low Carbon Contracts Company

LCCC Low Carbon Contracts CompanyLow Carbon Contracts Company (LCCC) were established as a new incentive by the Government to bring forward the investment needed to sustainably deliver renewable and other low carbon electricity. Founded in 2014, LCCC is at the heart of ensuring that the UK’s goals for secure, affordable and sustainable electricity are upheld and managed accordingly.

The challenge

LCCC were managing a mixture of architectures located across their main site and an offsite data centre, making it time consuming to maintain and keep track of. They had experience with the Microsoft Cloud stack and were interested to see how they could remove their dependency of on-premises architecture. The organisation also wanted to utilise their existing Microsoft 365 licencing to enhance the security of their platform and remove the dependency on their site to allow for a future office move.

After a recommendation from Microsoft, LCCC chose to partner with Azure experts Transparity. The Microsoft Gold Partner proposed a solution that complimented LCCC’s requirements regarding migration and security, as well as demonstrating a strong, people-centric culture.

The solution

We deployed a number of the security services offered with Microsoft 365 E5, including Azure Active Directory (Azure AD). This allowed the Microsoft 365 Partner to introduce enhanced identity protection with Multi-Factor Authentication, Conditional Access and self-service password resets. Microsoft Endpoint Manager was also deployed to provide an easy way to secure and manage any mobile device; all from within one console which is fully integrated with Microsoft 365, helping to keep the organisation’s data secure in mobile applications.

We also migrated Low Carbon Contracts Company’s remaining services from their datacentre into Azure, allowing the company to decommission the remaining on-premises infrastructure. This offered a highly-flexible, scalable and low maintenance environment.

In order to best help LCCC’s users adopt these changes, an adoption and change workshop was completed to help decipher the adoption approach to ensure the best possible engagement with the new technology. To further support this, the Transparity Training and Adoption Portal (TAP) was implemented. This flexible, digital learning platform empowers staff to learn how to use solutions across the Microsoft Stack at their own pace. This helps maximise the investment in Microsoft 365.

The outcome

Low Carbon Contracts Company’s IT estate now resides entirely in Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365, leveraging a mixture of technologies within the product set for collaboration and ease of access, as well as enhancing security. Migrating to the Microsoft Cloud and adopting Microsoft 365 has provided a simplified approach to IT for the organisation, allowing them to remain adaptable and to flex their infrastructure accordingly in future.

Additionally, Microsoft 365 allows for a modern approach to accessing data from any device and location, whilst also providing a secure environment for all devices and users. Having access to TAP offered LCCC staff to easily adopt the changes and utilise the Cloud-based features now available to them within Microsoft 365.

Following our work, LCCC are no longer dependant on on-premises architecture, ensuring that any future expansion plans will not be affected by interruption to their core business services.

“The whole process working with Transparity was clear and easy from start to finish and we completed the process on -time and in budget. They supported us in all aspects of the change from planning to the full migration and commissioning. This was all done during lockdown working with remotely and there was no impact on business as usual. The new environment helped us support our staff to work from home in a more efficient manner and put us in the position to move to our new office with a fully cloud environment that let us move quickly and hit the ground running.”
